Sanitation is the District's department whose function is to collect the sewage from your homes and businesses and pump it to treatment plants located in Sausalito and Mill Valley.  The District maintains about thirty (30) miles of pipes, various manholes and clean-outs, and two pumping stations to convey your effluent for treatment.  Generally, the private property owner is responsible for upkeep of the sewer lateral that extends from the home or business and connects to the District pipe located below the street or under the sidewalk.
